Your periodical reminder to talk to your friends and neighbours about the referendum next year. Amalgamation has been terrible for cities across Canada and it will be bad for Victoria too. Taxes will rise, public spaces will be degraded, and progress on housing & transport issues stalled.
Hi friends in Victoria and Saanich - let’s talk about the referendum that’s coming next year to join urban, suburban, and rural parts of the BC capital region into a single-tier municipality. The experiences of other cities across Canada should be our guide: Vote No!

Vote NO to Amalgamation of Victoria and Saanich
Amalgamation is expensive, wasteful, and decreases democracy in our communities. Saanich and Victoria are great places, let's keep it that way!

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Mark Carney managed to trade a pipeline that will never get built for meaningful progress on industrial carbon pricing and electricity interties — both of which will get more wind and solar built.

President Zelenskyy came to the White House, looking for help from his longstanding ally.

He was ambushed, humiliated and berated for not being grateful enough.

Prince Bone Saw bin 9/11 came to the White House, for the first time since he ordered the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

He was revered.

Folks have been telling me they’ve noticed I’ve gotten “a lot more political” on social media this year.

Of course I have.

The circumstances have gotten nightmarishly worse, and the consequences of inaction and staying silent infinitely more obvious.

Everyone needs to get “a lot more political.”

Let’s be clear. If a completely immature & unhinged maniac is allowed to do this kind of thing out of toddler-level spite when President’s DON’T EVEN HAVE THE POWER TO UNILATERALLY LEVY TARIFFS, then there simply IS NO LEGITIMATE TRADE RELATIONSHIP between the United States & Canada or any country.

The amount is meaningless — less than one day of salary. But the principle is important: once the armed services are paid by the oligarchs, they become a private militia, and we no longer have a country.

Pushing for a cease fire so you can look good in a genocide you specifically enabled, at the same time as you’re assaulting your own democracy & waging war on your own cities, is never going to get you a prize for peace. If there’s a prize for hypocrisy and narcissism though, you’ve got a real shot.

Did people actually believe Trump during his campaign, or did they just love the permission he gave them to be racist?

Trump on loop: “They’re stealing your jobs.”

If that were true, why aren’t Americans lining up to take those so-called “stolen” jobs?

Every Trump voter needs to see this.

A sane country would begin impeachment proceedings ASAP. Or yesterday. Or not have reelected him. Or not have elected him at all in the first place.

They're going after everyone. Their only mission is to destroy all institutions, steamroll the Constitution and make a mockery of the rule of law. The United States is a calamity.

This is beautiful and a balm in crazy times.
Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

For anyone still saying that a Canadian like me should “mind my own business,” there’s literally nothing that’s more my business — more EVERYONE’s business — than the most powerful nation in the world right next door turning itself into a lawless, fact-less, corrupt dictatorship.

Nothing. #ElbowsUp

Hello 🇺🇲 from next door (🇨🇦). The thugs have DJT as their narcissistic, demented stooge leader. But who's leading the American Resistance? Media's full of desperate cries to do something. But WHO is to lead the charge to stop the demolition of democracy and the rule of law? And where's the traction?

Sounds like Canada
-A living wage
-Guaranteed healthcare
-The right to join a union
-The right to vote
-The right to choose when, how, and with whom you start a family
-The right for you and your family to live free from gun violence

These are the foundations of real freedom.
