ofc this is a very multifaceted issue and shooters have their own subculture removed from public perception but it is clear shooters do what they do because of the public response, not just because of some personal notion of fulfillment. the point is to be heard in the loudest way possible.

where by doing a great act of violence gives you a permanent one-up on all the people who supposedly wronged you. if you instead think shooting up a school means you’re embarrassing to be LARPIng as a Rambo-type figure, you’re less likely to fall in the rabbit hole of idealizing the act
