The calm before the storm — soon these PCs 💻 will be filled with students tackling their Biology exams @hsmagdeburgstendal.bsky.social 🧬. Good luck everyone 🍀🤞!

Today was field trip day with the international students of the StREaM program @hsmagdeburgstendal.bsky.social. Sunny weather, motivated students (and professor) and cool organisms. #SpinedLoach #Fish #Macroinvertebrates

Just got featured in the regional/local newspaper Volksstimme! So now pretty much all of #Magdeburg knows there's a fishy Austrian in town 😂

Today was our final day of field work with water management students from @hsmagdeburgstendal.bsky.social in the #Harz mountains. After yesterday's success we were able to complete the species list of the native #fish fauna in our study brook today: A beautiful young brown trout and a bullhead.

Day #2 in the field: Again, we found many interesting species (even a few young brook #lamprey) and successfully conducted a very basic assessment of the brook's ecological status #Uhlenbach #Harz #Macroinvertebrates #Lampetra

In the field with students in the #Harz mountains - 3 days macro invertebrates sampling (not exclusively). Motivated students, perfect weather, brilliant colleagues and lots of interesting organisms. #hydrobiology 🧪

From my series on Exploring Nearby #Water Bodies – No. 3: Alte #Elbe in Magdeburg...a very sandy and shallow side channel of the main Elbe river. Pretty low water levels at the moment.

Today's #fieldwork along the food web: Collected #fish samples (perch and roach) from a local fisherman for aging analyses (scales & opercula), then took #plankton samples from the #Elbe for tomorrow's hydrobiology class. #AquaticEcology

Exploring Nearby #Water Bodies – No. 2
This morning, I had the opportunity to visit the Umflutehle, a small lotic water body located near @hsmagdeburgstendal.bsky.social. This location will serve as a field site for our student sampling campaign on #macroinvertebrates and #fish later this spring.

Using some spare minutes to check out nearby water bodies which might act as study objects in our #Hydrobiology class. Today the small lake Garnsee just around the corner @hsmagdeburgstendal.bsky.social has definitely some fish, amphibians etc.

Darauf hab ich mich schon wochenlang gefreut. @tocotronicofficial.bsky.social in #Berlin aus dem Alter mit der Jugendbewegung bin ich nie raus

Busy days in my new position at @hsmagdeburgstendal.bsky.social. Tuesdays mean hands-on #hydrobiology with our students. Today we jointly identified #aquatic macroinvertebrates (mayflies, caddisflies etc). Great fun and a nice way to reconnect with roots of my own studies at @boku-ihg.bsky.social

What I love: Watching my computer go full throttle on multiple cores, running through heavy bootstrap #statistics. Feels like someone else is doing the hard work for me! 🚀📊 #science

🤓I took me until today to realize that there is this nice convience package in #R to run #QGIS commands. #qgisprocess is extremly helpful to have 📈 statistics and 🌐 geoprocessing within one reproducable script. #GIS

It's #Krampus Day! For many of us Austrians, especially from the countryside, this tradition shaped our childhood memory, I guess. Christoph Waltz describes perfectly the essence of this spooky tradition. 🇦🇹👹

Maybe with "Show less like this" from the context menu? It is said that this should train the algorithm...if it is that clever? - I don't know. 🤷
December 4, 2024 at 6:48 AM
Oooh - I guess I found a solution. There a language setting for algorithmic feeds. Wasn't aware that I made a change there.

It's working - and it might boost our study @science.org to a 1000+ @altmetric.com score 🚀 hahaha 😈

📢 Our paper on a #sensitivity analysis of the German Eel Model is published in #Fisheries Management and Ecology!!

💬 HQ data and #uncertainty 📏 of shares of females, natural & hydropower-related mortality & stocking are key to improve model-based #eel stock assessment 📉

Waiting for science.org to join @bsky.app - or did I miss something? 🤔 Any plans in the works, @kakape.bsky.social?

Also noticed @altmetric.com's idea for a 'share to Bluesky' button (as mentioned in the article) hasn’t been implemented yet for science.org articles. Fingers crossed for updates!
