It’s because the race format is also part of the problem. It’s all of this new shit that’s trying to manipulate and manufacture “entertainment”. Double file restarts are cool. Everything else—stages, overtime, playoffs, one race finale—are all symptoms of the same flawed mindset.

NASCAR, in an attempt to never have a 2003 Matt Kenseth event again, basically killed everything people liked about it instead of literally just weighting wins far more in the points like every other racing series on Earth

This is the same issue that has devalued a Daytona 500 win. Sports build toward a satisfying conclusion, they create stories by format. In so many different ways, NASCAR has gotten in the way of its own ability to tell those stories.

Every time I see a Communauto vehicle in Vermont I cover the brake. For some reason they seem target locked on the closest vehicle and will attempt to crash into it a good 50 percent of the time.
