The "black adverts" row shows why Reform is both appealing and dangerous; see today's Times:

So good to see the King visit the Manchester Synagogue that was attacked - a picture says a thousand words - in this case: the attack was atrocious, anti-semitism needs to be condemned & combatted, Jews have full protection of the law as much as anyone else, the royals care too.

If, as Harold Wilson said, "A week is a long time in politics" - then all credit to Donald Trump for using this week well.

Participated in a very moving service at Coventry Cathedral yesterday for police who had died in the line of duty. They had left home one morning, tackled criminals on behalf of you and me, and never returned that night. We remembered them and thanked them (and their families).

The three wise dictators: hear evil, see evil, speak evil - but which is which? . On show in Bejing today. But hurry, entry is only open to those who have sold out.

I go abroad for a week and return to find I not only missed massive thunderstorms but a burst water main that flooded our entire road - my thanks go to neighbours who sandbagged my front door. Never under-estimate the importance of good neighbours (or the horror of bad ones)

Director of the V&A, Tristram Hunt in yesterday's The Times: what does he know about the proposed Holocaust memorial museum that the Government doesn't seem to realise? And he's right!

Grief is a strange beast that grips you viciously and can almost prevent you from breathing. Sadly I know that personally, but at least on one occasion I was able to help someone else when they were in the depths of it. See yesterday's The Times:

There’s been a lot of controversy about the proposed Holocaust Memorial in Westminster: as a rabbi, I’d prefer to scrap it & put the £100+ million into education in schools nationally about Jewish life & values; that’d be much more effective than a static memorial in one place.

My take (in today’s The Times) on Giles Coren’s conversion to Christianity…& Reform Judaism

I don’t understand why in this and in all previous hostage/prisoner deals between Israel and Palestinians, it’s never a straight swop - one person for another person - but always 1 Israeli for 20/30 Palestinians. Is not one life of equal worth to another? What value system is being used?

One of the problems bedevilling the Church is how to get rid of a vicar suspected of unChristian behaviour when they have lifelong tenure? Here’s the answer in today’s The Times:

Something I never expected when a student at UCL in the 1970s was that one day I’d be back speaking in one of the lecture halls, but yesterday I did. Funny how things look different when you’re on the podium rather than in the rows of seats. Just wish my old Professor was here.

The main victims in the Church abuse scandal are those abused, but to a much much lesser extent decent clergy have suffered from being tarnished by those perpetrators, so all credit to @BishopNewcastle for speaking out so directly (see today’s Times below)
