Rafael Devers needs to understand he's already been paid. No team in the league would trade for his contract, or pick him up on waivers. The Sox should offer him a chance to find out, just like w/Manny, then tell him he's a DH in a sports city that loves them, making more than Papi dreamed of.

In other words: the richest man on Earth, who owns a space technology company, is slashing the US government’s space program — with no electoral mandate to do so
Friday evening DOGE news continues — NASA staffers have received a memo saying that DOGE “has arrived onsite at the agency” and that the agency is anticipating the “large-scale reductions in force” ordered by the Trump-Musk-Vance administration.

Trump's goal feels like it's to crash the economy so his billionaire friends can buy middle class's assets for pennies on the $, while making their friends in Russia & China feel safe to do easy land grabbing, and destroy NATO over a patch of Artic ice.

Molotov-Ribbontroff, but dumber.

on a structural level, the american government has outsourced a shockingly large amount of its state capacity to a judicial system that is, as constituted, basically designed to avoid employing subject matter expertise to resolve problems

Okay, Red Sox. Walker Buehler.

Not Fried or Burnes, but a decent shot he's just as good and at least he's rocking the playoffs.

I'll take it!

PS. I wish this had been a 2 year deal.

I don't know who the best pitcher ever is, but I'm absolutely positive about which pitcher had the best season. No one was as dominant as Pedro in 2000. Pitchers were getting eaten alive that year, but Pedro was lights out.
Fun Fact: Pedro Martinez was so dominant as a pitcher in the HEART of the Steroid Era that if in 2000 you doubled his ERA for the season he still would have won the ERA title.

He deserves his own fucking WING in the Hall of Fame.

My grand bipartisanship plan for the next 4 years:

Dems should save Johnson's bacon every time *if* he grows a spine & tells "DOGE" (not elected, not nominated, not confirmed, not a part of our govt at all) to take a hike.

His job would be secure, he would just have to keep the 💡 on.

My fixes for the MLB:

1. Beef up luxury tax, incl restrictions on int'l prospects & draft.

2. Every team gets a player that doesn't count against the tax threshold.

3. Salary floor at 50% of the luxury tax threshold (~$120m today).

4. Force the A's to sell, and put Pirates owners on notice.

It really stings losing Kyle Teel, and Montgomery was exciting to think about, but this feels like a reasonable deal. I'm surprised the White Sox didn't prefer something around Abreu, a proven MLB talent w/5 years of control, but 🤷

Anyway, the BoSox better extend Crochet given what they gave up.
BREAKING: The Red Sox have acquired pitcher Garrett Crochet from the White Sox, sources tell @ken-rosenthal.bsky.social.

Boston will send Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez to Chicago in return.

Lord, the dictionaries got this year.
Collins dictionary went with “brat”.

Oxford chose “brain rot”.

But in a brutally divided country, the US’s premier dictionary skipped the slang: Merriam-Webster’s word of the year is “polarization”.
‘Polarization’ is Merriam-Webster’s word of the year: ‘Something everyone agrees on’
The premier US dictionary’s pick, based on search traffic, reflects a year of political and celebrity division

Love it.

A Muppet Star Wars film in the vein of a Muppet Christmas Carol/Treasure Planet adaptation basically writes itself, could be done w/a modest budget, and if minimally competently produced would slay.

PS. I literally got into Star Wars bc of the Muppet Babies animated Star Wars episodes.
The fact that Disney bought Star Wars and bought the Muppets and haven’t done a Muppets Star Wars is a crime.

The Golden At-Bat as an idea feels gimmicky, but isn't the kind of thing that would ruint he MLB, so 🤷

I'd feel bad for MLB players who make their career as being good pinch hitters and backups because it would negate a chunk of their value. I'm curious if the players union would fight it.
