We need to talk about Bill 9, Bill 9 and Bill C-9.

Somehow, they’re ALL awful — and they all infringe on the freedoms of Canadians, from trans Canadians, to visibly religious Canadians, to Canadians protesting genocide.

Can we agree: no more Bill 9s until we figure out what the hell is going on?

What's the big deal about using the notwithstanding clause pre-emptively?

It's not the end run around the courts that bothers me most.

It's the refusal to ensure the rights breaches are necessary, minimal, proportionate, and justified in a democratic society.

Defying the Lougheed Doctrine
The UCP's repeated use of the notwithstanding clause is fundamentally unconservative (and un-Albertan).

Great new piece on Danielle Smith's loyalty to big oil by Parkland Institute's founding Director, Gordon Laxer:

Where does Danielle Smith’s loyalty lie?
To be charitable, perhaps it is not that Alberta Premier Danielle Smith doesn’t love her country, but that she loves Big Oil more.
