Just FYI, the legislative balance isn’t actually impacted here; it’s a d+26 district and there will be a special election before Minnesota’s legislature is back in session. The assassin could not have known but this occurred during a legislative break and they won’t be back until January.
This wasn’t just an attack on two lawmakers—it was an attack on the democratic process itself. Minnesota legislators are now left grieving their colleagues while looking over their shoulders. No one elected them to serve under the threat of political assassination.

Ward 3 convention featured a lot of impatient yelling. Towards the end, one of the co chairs came up and spoke about the importance of respecting the volunteers who put this together. The head of credentials, she said, went home in tears.
