À nouveau, la librairie LGBTQIA+ Violette and Co est au cœur d'une tempête politique déclenchée par la droite parisienne. Et c'est encore l'accusation infamante d'antisémitisme qui prévaut.

On vous envoie toute notre force, les amies !

Great we now have shitty AI slop in the form of fragrance influencers as if we didn't already have enough "content"

By the way this is true for any job: doing the job and making it a business are two very different things.

Dealing with taxes, sales and or marketing, partnerships, etc... is a job in itself.

Moreover, some costs are just too high for a one-person operation and benefit from economies of scale
As more journalists are driven out of their jobs, I keep hearing this drumbeat of "it's ok -- they can start their own newsletter or publication." Some can. But becoming your own business is a huge job, and will eliminate many talented reporters from the public sphere. Here's why. (1/5)

Tick-mandated veganism was not on my bingo card but here we go
Not only is climate change causing ticks to expand their territory, it's also causing an explosion in alpha-gal syndrome, which makes people allergic to eating red meat or using products that come from those animals. A dozen cases in '09 to over 450,000 now. 🧪

‘Explosive increase’ of ticks that cause meat allergy in US due to climate crisis
Unusually aggressive lone star ticks, common in the south-east, are spreading to areas previously too cold for them

You should read Fashion Review issue #1 because I wrote an article in it about Diorissimo, a legendary fragrance created in 1956 by Edmond Roudnistka

What's everyone's favorite Obsidian plugin?

I'm transitioning my notetaking from Notion to Obsidian as it feels closer to how I operate naturally (and offline access+not being laggy=good)

Taipei - Day 4

Jiufen old road, which you probably have seen in a million of Taiwan slideshows, requires a bit of getting'out of the crowd to be enjoyed
If you stay in the main roads, you'll be faced by neverending stream of shops and tourists, but with cute lanterns
Also: more rain, we got soaked

Taipei - Day 3
Rain was a risk we had taken that sadly materialized, but at least here it feels less dreadful than in Paris, where fall started at the end of August

We visited a few landmarks (CKH memorial, national museum) and I went thrifting in Zonghshan before eating out at the night market

My biggest pet peeve so far with Taipei is that it's still too car centric, despite feeling like a city that would be way better for bikes (and pedestrians).

Right now bike lanes are basically on the sidewalk, which is far from ideal.

Also, trafic lights timing feels off.

Gin however, is delicious scented scented alcohol
Tea is just boiling scent water. I do not understand why anyone would drink it.

Daily reminder that platforms always end up being bad for many obvious reasons (corporate greed, bad metrics) so yeah, take your time to build your own corner of the internet
I think it's great that Bluesky has had this huge growth, for the art scene in particular. unsolicited advice: if you are an artist building a platform, use this time to guide people to a blog or newsletter *you* own so that in 5 years when Bluesky sucks, it won't take your entire audience with it!

Taipei - Day 2

Fighting against jetlag is always tough but we managed to do so with only 2 naps. My kid went to bed before 8 (she slept for 12 hours straight)

Taipei 101 and Din Tai Fung were on the morning plans, I sneaked out of the room at 10.30pm to the local night market and grabbed some 7/11
