All told, the picture is one of a consistent, if unacknowledged, libertarian eugenics. The high-tech fertility market privileges those able to pay for genetic advantage. The retreat of public health abandons the social minimum needed to ensure that all children can survive and thrive. And immigration policy redraws the body politic along racial lines, achieving by exclusion what mid-century welfare states once sought through inclusion. What emerges is not a paradox but a 21st-century return of social Darwinism, wrapped in a language of choice, freedom and national greatness.

It is a little weird to me countries aren’t more aggressively, formally trying to take advantage of the U.S. science brain drain. Once in a lifetime opportunity to buy low on Non-Dumbass Americans with PhDs who just wanna look into microscopes and quietly cure ass cancer as our country eats shit.

Evolutionary psychologists Tooby and Cosmides make an early appearance in this new book on the rise of the far-right, here listening to Charles Murray opine on race and gender essentialism at a meeting of a thinktank devoted to the free market and small government
Murray expanded on the theme at a meeting of the Mont Pelerin Society in an exotic location: the Galápagos Islands. The name of the meeting was "Evolution, the Human Sciences, and Liberty" and his talk was titled "the rediscovery of human nature and human diversity," a process that he claimed was going to happen because of new discoveries in genetics. These would induce "rever- sions to age-old understandings about the human animal." This would lead to the reconfirmation of discredited prejudices as scientific truths. He dwelled on the question of racial difference. "Throughout the igth century and first half of the zoth century," he wrote, "physical anthro- pologists accepted the concept of race with little dissension." Carleton Coon's magnum opus, The Origin of Races (I962) "provoked no out- rage when it appeared," he claimed. (Not true; in fact, it "sparked enor- mous controversy in the anthropological community.") + Two events led to what he called "the intellectual eclipse of human nature and human diversity in the United States": the civil rights movement and the feminist movement. Political developments had since obscured the primal origins of difference between not only the races but the sexes. Appealing to the sociobiology and evolutionary psychology developed at Harvard University by E.O. Wilson, Robert L. Trivers, and his students, Leda Cosmides and John Tooby (the latter two who were in attendance in the Galapagos), Murray claimed that we still bore binary gender differences as an inheritance of the savanna.
