I tried making a video flipping over the pillow so you could see the Chevrolet bow-tie wrapping around it. Had problems uploading it, so you'll have to settle for stills.

Anyway, here is the quilt folded into a pillow.
The Chevrolet quilt folded into a pillow. It's sitting on a white comforter. Background of the pillow is royal blue with yellow stars (asterisks) sewn in it. There is half the yellow Chevrolet bow-tie visible with the letters CHEV in blue on it. The yellow and V are on the far right of the pillow. This portion of the pillow is a separate quilt square sewn to the back of the quilt like a pocket. It is quilted. More of the Chevrolet quilt folded into a pillow. The yellow Chevrolet bow-tie symbol continues on the back of the pillow. There is a smidge of the blue V visible on the left of the pillow followed by the rest of the letters - ROLET. Same royal blue background with yellow stars (asterisks) appliqued on it. The ROLET portion is sewn directly on the back of the quilt. All stitching on the ROLET side of the pillow is applique, so that the stitches are not visible on the front of the quilt. Sewn to match the actual quilting on the CHEV portion of the pillow. More of the Chevrolet quilt folded into a pillow. Half the yellow Chevrolet bow-tie, with just the OLET blue letters visible from this angle. At the right edge of the pillow you can see the opening to the pocket where the quilt has been folded into the pocket.

Actually, I finished!

Flew to see my parents this weekend for my Dad's birthday. Rushed to finish this because I wanted to show my Mom. Left the quilt there for my brother to pick up the next time he visits - probably Christmas. So it's still a surprise. 1/2
Large throw-size quilt lying on top of a white comforter. Quilt is mostly blue squares in a checkerboard pattern, with one set of squares all royal blue and the other set of squares in varying shades of blue. There are some white rectangles with images of a 1948-49 blue woody Chevy station wagon and various Chevy logos and sayings. "See the USA in your Chevrolet." Close-up of one of the white rectangles, surrounded by several royal blue squares and other random blue squares. The white rectangle has a 1948-49 blue woody Chevrolet station wagon on the bottom right driving towards the right. WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Less than 2 weeks to go. Trying not to panic. CHEV quilt square is almost done. Considering adding yellow asterisk "stars" in blue area to finish off the quilting. Meantime, appliqueing ROLET to back of main quilt, trying to match the quilting of CHEV
Quilt square that will be the pillowcase of the quillow. Royal blue background with half of the Chevrolet bow-tie logo in yellow, with dark blue CHEV on it. Yellow bow-tie has been quilted with a definite handsewn running stitch. There are safety pins in the surrounding blue background. Three edges of the quilt square (which is actually a rectangle) are finished off. The right edge is all raw edges and will be bound in the main quilt binding. Quilt square is lying on a white and blue tablecloth. Quilt square being appliqued on the back of a quilt. Backing is royal blue flannel. Background of the quilt square is royal blue with half of the Chevrolet bow-tie logo in yellow. Dark blue ROLET on the yellow bow-tie. Lots of safety pins on the quilt square. A little bit of running stitch has been started to applique the quilt square to the quilt. Trying to match the quilting on the CHEV square. Checking every stitch to make sure the thread doesn't end up on the front of the quilt. A yellow thread is draped across the square. There is a small cardboard embroidery floss holder with matching blue and yellow floss wound on it. I did not trust the opacity of the yellow fabric on the dark blue fabric, so there is part of an old white sheet underneath. I want the yellow to match that of the CHEV portion.

Chevy logo is coming along nicely. Need to trim sides to length for both halves. Then quilt sandwich the CHEV portion and embroider the ROLET portion to the main quilt. Think I have my quilting figured out so that both sides will appear to be quilted the same
Fabric sewn to depict the Chevrolet "bow tie" logo. Background is royal blue, bow tie is made up of different yellows, letters (all capped) are in various royal to dark blue fabrics. The logo is split roughly in the middle, between the V and R. Those areas need to be trimmed to size and will be sewn into the quilt binding and hopefully line up nicely when I do that. Fabric is lying on a light grey couch. At the top left of the photograph is a tiny bit of white fluff belonging to best cat.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky. Finished quilting the main quilt. Working on the pillowcase now. Can't bind until the pillowcase is done. Ripped the CHEVROLET in half. Now adding more yellow squares so I can 60deg angle the sides, plus squares for the + sign, so it will better match the logo.
Fabric square sewn together to form dark blue letters on a yellow background. Upper piece spells ROLET and lower piece spells CHEV. Extra yellow squares on the side with a few sewn together

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! I have begun quilting. Sticking with straight lines (squares eventually) 1/4 inch from the seams as I know I can do a nice job, it's a gift, and it's for my brother. At some point, I'll make a quilt I can freely experiment on, but not this one. 1/

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Got my walking foot last week and tried it out. So nice!

Quilt is sandwiched. On the downside, I need to trim the side edge backing so I can extend the length of it a half inch. Then I can quilt.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! I'm early today because I finished piecing this blue Chevy quilttop yesterday. 😂This will be a quillow with a more complicated pillowcase for me, so I'm not sure how long I'll be overthinking the next steps.

Hey #Quiltsky . Feels like I haven't posted for WIPWednesday in a while so I'm getting a jump on Throwback Thursday. #FirstQuilt almost 30 years ago, followed by a long gap before I began quilting again. Did not have any pictures on my phone because this was made when I had a pager. 😆
Baby quilt. Tumbling blocks pattern with red, green, yellow, and blue blocks arranged in a pyramid. Background are pastel hexagons in same colors. Green border and yellow border. Quilt is not bound. All machine sewn.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Really pleased with my California state flag, even if it's not finished. It made it to a protest last week.

Back to my blue Chevy quilt. 6 1/2 rows sewn together. Bad seizure interrupted; I'll get back to it tomorrow. I'm a little over a third the way on the quilt top.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky!

I offered to make a flag for recent protest friend. He wanted a state flag, so I'm overthinking everything but making progress. Need to change ink cartridge to print out a star and then figure out the bear. A bear! Straight lines are so much easier!

#Quiltsky This weekend, I attended my first protest since the pandemic started. Had to design a crown for my protest flag; edited a peace symbol for the circle/slash. Had plenty of letters from previous protests. Flag is pieced from quilting cotton; embellishments are felt cutouts and basted on
A homemade US flag. Red quilting fabric pieced with white fabric for stripes and a solid blue field. On the blue is a white crown and a white circle/slash symbol through the crown, with "NO KINGS" underneath it. The slashed crown and letters are in white felt. They're basted on, so I can replace them for the next protest.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! It's been a week, so I'm trying to escape mentally. Pushed myself to finalize my fabric layout. (Shoot the engineer and put it in production!) Dragged the sewing machine to the kitchen table and got a few squares sewn together. Progress, however slowly.
A tabletop with a newer Singer sewing machine (very plasticky looking) on it, along with lots of squares of various blue fabric. A row of blue squares has been started. The handwritten fabric layout is barely visible underneath the fabric.

WIP Thursday #Quiltsky! (I forgot yesterday.)

Just wanted to show I made a decision and fussy cut my special fabric. I cut out several cardboard frames, laying them on the fabric to center different areas, making sure they didn't overlap. It was very helpful for me. Whew. On to the next decision

I turned many of my blue fabric strips into squares. Time to make decisions on my Chevrolet fabric about how to fussy cut it. I cut out 2 cardboard frames to help me. We'll see how long I procrastinate. Some of us overthink everything...🙃

Too much overthinking on this blue quilt for my brother. Finally told myself to do something. Currently cutting 5in rows of blue fabric to be cut into squares later. (Rows require clearing off more of the kitchen table. Squares can be cut while my son eats at same table.)
Various blue fabric spread out on a white and blue tablecloth. The fabric has been cut into 5 inch rows and folded so each appears to be a 5 inch square. Solids, tonals, a few small prints, all in shades of blue with one in white.

Friday, I went to "my" Joann's. Countdown said 4 more days. I bought a few things and said goodbye. Saturday I went to a farther Joann's. They're closing 5 days later and their prices weren't as low. They did have more stuff and I bought. Embroidery floss and felt and a few other items.

A red and white quilt found in my parents' house. Embroidered names are from my Dad's childhood church. He doesn't remember anything about this quilt. Now speculating maybe this was a church fundraiser? @h1ghpriest3ss.bsky.social
A red and white quilt from approximately late 1920s to early 1930s. Blocks of red and white flying geese alternate with blocks of embroidered wheels (do they count as Dresden plates?) with embroidered names of members of a church from central Illinois. Possibly for a church fundraiser? Ten flying geese blocks & ten embroidered wheel blocks all arranged in a square. Upper wheel block is torn. Crappy photography.

#Quiltsky My Joann's store has begun their countdown. One of the workers told me another local Joann's will stay open longer because they have a lot more merch, so I will try that one next time.

Everything is at least 60% off.

Is it my last update? Who knows? Quilting cotton is now 50% off. Remnants are 75% off, so extra encouragement for buying the end of the bolt. Selection is definitely limited. I bought some of the fabric they got multiple bolts of when the liquidation was first announced.

I've been checking their website daily. Yesterday, prices dropped again, so I went last night. Spring decor is now 50% off, so I bought the sewing machine birdhouse I've been eyeing. Noticeably fewer on hand; I don't think they'll last the weekend. 1/x

I ended up doing a bit more embroidery on my previous UFO. Stopping in the middle of a word didn't seem like a good idea.

Now on to the next UFO. This is a row of my tree quilt. This quilt was put aside because I moved my sewing setup to another room 1/x
A long row made of small squares of fabric sewn together balled up on the couch. Fabric is mostly shades of green with some sky blue tossed in. Seams have not been pressed yet. There is a small piece of paper safety pinned to one end of the row. It's blurry, but I know it says "Next Row Left" to tell me that that square should be sewn onto the left side of the quilt when I add the row to the rest of the quilt.

WIP Wednesday!
I have not been sewing much lately. Finally decided that my current UFO (unfinished object) isn't inspiring me much these days. It's better to work on it on cold days and spring is in the air. So I've decided to work on a different UFO.
A ~1985-90 Kenmore sewing machine lying on its side with the bottom plate removed. It's on a kitchen table with a white and blue table cloth. Next to it is the sewing machine manual (with glare on it in the picture) opened to the "Oiling your machine" page with a drawing of a machine on its side showing removal of the bottom plate and arrows where to oil. Other drawings include available presser feet and accessories for the machine.

Joann Update.

Quilting cotton is 30% off! I bought some. Selection is definitely thinning.

My store also got in some bias tape and rickrack. Limited colors and sizes. Wondering if it's from a store they closed?
Store windows with large red, yellow, and black signs. Only part of the left window and sign is in the picture with the "RE" and "ING" of the "STORE CLOSING" sign. Middle window sign says "ENTIRE STORE 30%-60% OFF Original Price. Limited Exceptions Apply."
