If it changes tomorrow and there are no impacts, then yeah, that’s the new status quo. If it changes tomorrow and there’s a BAD impact, you’re getting a reversion. And bad press.

Experience design and change management are professions for a reason. This example is one of them.

The two questions are essentially different, by the way. “How do you feel about one conductor instead of two” and “do you feel the presence of more conductors impacts your safety”.

The first one’s going to get a gendered response. The second one is the better one for actual insight.

No. But read my follow-up post: I think what the “I talked to female voters” people are detecting is a general uneasiness with a proposed change to what they perceive as the (safe) status quo.

I have no doubt female riders are saying it, and they’re not “wrong”. The question has levels.

If you’re thinking that female straphanging voters are responding based on personal experience with heroic subway conductors, then yeah, I don’t think that’s a thing.

But if they feel safe now, and you’re proposing a change in the status quo that currently is safe for them, I get the pause.

I also live in NYC, and would frame it differently: currently I’m fine on the subway, including the occasional eccentricity. I do see the conductors on the subway. And if someone randomly asked me “hey, how about reducing conductors from 2 to 1”, the first thing that would come to mind IS safety.

It’s bizarre. It’s as though they can report on rumors, but once there’s evidence - apply a rigorous set of journalistic standards!

So it’s okay to speculate. But if you unearth proof? Uh, can’t speculate anymore because now you KNOW, but also can’t publish cause it’s not watertight. So: The Void.

I thought the same thing, but I also suspect there’s some weird charisma involved, something you can’t explain unless you’re actually face-to-face with the person.

There’s no other explanation for all of these men so clearly desperate for Epstein to glance their way. It’s eerie.

The mod decision is sound and an example of the most efficient known way to mod at scale.

The punishment meted out is more opaque and I’m not sure if it’s consistent. But the modding call was the right one.
For those outraged by the decision here, when modding at scale, you get 2 options here:

1. Takedown and repercussions for posts that state a desire to shoot people
2. Allow a host of bad actors to post song lyrics from any moment in time, no matter how violent and direct.

Modding isn’t simple.
The account owner of @sarahkendzior.bsky.social was suspended for 72 hours for expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article. The post, made 11/10, stated: "I want to shoot the author of this article just to watch him die." 1/2

Same! But I can certainly imagine why Republican politicians, in particular, thought it was such an important point. Because in their worldview, it’s the Most Important Thing, clearly!

My realization of the day is that when they kept saying Democrats, we assumed they meant Democrat politicians.

But I don’t think that’s it, I think they meant Democrat-aligned boosters and donors. The money.

So us saying “good, they should resign!” had no traction. Donors don’t resign.

A bad actor ties up mods by flooding the zone with obscure, hideous lyrics and now you’re stuck litigating intent, which is much slippier. Everyone’s time is better spent.

You can either have effective modding at scale, or nuanced modding glacially. Those are our current options.

Does this mean posters with an innocent history can’t post classic song lyrics about shooting people? Yeah. That’s where “at scale” comes in. We can’t do a history search on every user when posts are flagged. That eats too much time.

So good posters have to self-police a bit. Even on song lyrics.

So the perfectly sane and reasonable reaction of voters (“if Dems are in there, good, make ‘em resign too”) is a disconnect. These guys don’t resign, because they either don’t have an official role or they don’t need the role for their desired influence.

Burn the whole thing to the ground.

People read “kompromat” and hear RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA!

They’re preprogrammed to discount it.

I do not require these to be sequential. Continue building the list as the prosecutions and shunning commence. Our tech overlords like tech processes, right? We’ll do a staggered rollout, some A/B testing on the prosecutions and shunning.

I want one list of the people who sexually exploited children. And then I want a second list of ambitious, amoral humans who knew about it and colluded because hey, it’s nice to have a favor to be able to call in one day and a rich, powerful friend.

And then I want prosecutions and shunning.

None of us are going to be okay after a decade of this. Gaslit populations aren’t just magically okay after something like this. And that even beyond the perpetrators and toadies there’s a large circle who view this as merely tawdry muck that doesn’t really impact the state…

What is wrong with us?
November 12, 2025 at 4:23 PM
The papers that will be written about the psychological damage done to a country consistently told that powerful people sexually exploited children, covered for each other, gained benefit from that collision, and were then repeatedly exposed only to have NOTHING HAPPEN over DECADES…

I like my current setup (dishwasher, coin laundry in building) but if I could make one alteration it would be an in-unit washer… but I do mean WASHER, small one in the kitchen like in Europe, no dryer. That was my dream setup, and my current building bans it.

(Yes I have looked at camper washers.)
