When you see a peer-reviewed scientific journal article, it often says “pay $35 to read this.”

Did you know that $0 of that goes to the authors of the article?

Just email us and we’ll be happy to send you a copy for free. We’re usually thrilled that anyone cares. 🧪🦑🦈

🚨Report your NSF grant terminations! 🚨

We are starting to collect information on NSF grant terminations to create a shared resource as we have for NIH. The more information we collect, the more we can organize, advocate, and fight back! Please share widely!

The NSF grant I co-authored, awarded in 2024 under NSF’s Build and Broaden program, for a 3-year ethnography project with undocumented and formerly incarcerated entrepreneurs was killed on Friday. No surprise, just sad.

Works of art like #Sinners are there to keep us hopeful and inspired through all the hellish things. Masterpiece. Had a huge smile through so much of this film. Movies like this remind us why we fell in love with the movies.

NEW: A federal judge raised alarm Friday that the Trump administration appeared to have deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras with "no meaningful process" — even as her father was fighting to keep her in the country.

Stop-work orders from NSF/NIH trickling in the department I work for (my admin job, not my academic work). Looking at grad student researcher layoffs and entire labs stepping back from their work. Particularly targeting labs doing clean energy and sustainable projects. I'm sick to my stomach.

This week multiple colleagues shared that teaching has been a bright spot. Same here. In my class nearly all of my students take notes in a paper notebook. Yes, real life paper. They were present and on point during discussions, participating with insightful answers. It brought me hope.

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.
