This particular passage from Paradise Lost is one of those things that has stuck with me and affects how I see the world constantly. It really feels like it rewired my brain, to use the cliché.
there's a moment in PARADISE LOST where Satan arrives in Eden and realizes Hell isn't a place; it's a thing he carries within him and it'll follow him wherever he goes. and i think about that when i see these awful rich men whose monstrous wealth has enriched them not at all

yeah, elon keeps lobotomizing grok bc LLMs are actually harder to ideologically bias than they appear, even if not impossible obviously. it is more or less trivial, otoh, to bias the content management and discovery software of a social media platform if owner directly intends to
If this is what they are doing with the AI, what do you think they are doing with the much simpler and easier to control algorithm that chooses which posts you see and which of your posts are seen by others?

yeah, everyone has their own miniature version of being a apprachnik in a dictatorship. “yes, the crop yield numbers are fake, but if the farmers pretend to have a harvest i shall pretend to believe them”
I’ve been fascinated with this phenomena since Musk bought Twitter. People there, smart ones, know the algo is manipulated and know much of their “reach” are bots, but the fake numbers that they KNOW are fake still “feel” better than real numbers that might be numerically less but actual people.

If he does not willingly step aside, we are calling on the Senators in the Dem caucus to remove him and Dick Durbin from Senate leadership.

This is true for every policy issue, which is a good example why having two dysfunctional chambers run by people who hate democracy is so bad
All of the answers for “fixing cannabis” are gonna come at the legislative level. Presidential politics is a sucker’s bet for weed. The overarching categories for unwinding weed from federal law and enforcement would be:
- Controlled Substance status
- Banking laws
- Expungement
- Social Equity
