Not certain if this is also true or not, but there was a hacker effort to recreate the elusive Dodonpachi Blue/Campaign Version, but the creator was sent a DMCA to stop the efforts. Whether it was EXA or CAVE doesn't matter, since they're buddy-buddy. I think these meme images describe them well.
