performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!
tell me about a book that changed you
for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

So...you're saying that Minecraft spider caves really exist... 😳 😱
A biologist at the American Museum of Natural History, Jonathan Coddington, cataloged a new genus of South American spiders in 1986.
Two things about the spider were unique:
they lived in caves & laid cubic eggs.
So he called them genus 'Plato', and that's the nerdiest thing I have read all year.

For all the librarians out there, ALL of the vendors I have spoken with are looking at how they might expand into the void that was BT.
Ingram has been our mainstay.
Mackin, Follett, MicroMarketing, Midwest Library Svc, even Barnes & Noble is looking into it.
Gonna be a ride as things shake out!

I got accosted in the kindergarten pickup line by a mom who was livid that my kid had said "no" when asked if he liked her daughter's new shoes. I just looked at her, and asked, "Does SHE like them?" 1/2
The world would be a better place if people understood that distinction and that when I say I don’t like something that doesn’t necessarily mean that I think that thing is bad or poorly made. Understand the difference between personal preferences and actual criticism.

Pretty weird that the Republican Party talks a lot about protecting Christians from unseen forces and how our country is based on Christian values, but when there are hungry people to feed and sick people who need health care, Jesus Christ is suddenly a radical commie.

No, poor New Zealand families can’t just ‘grow their own vegetables’
Just 'put in a garden'? If only it was that simple.

I garden, in part, to remember my grandparents. My dad's parents had a small farm & worked everyday well into their 80s because they HAD to. My mom's parents were poor city kids who were SO PROUD when they were finally able to own a place where they could grow a few fresh tomatoes. 🌱 🧵
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

I’m not trying to give @pbs.org ideas for raising money—but I am. I would buy women’s fit T-shirts of all my favorite childhood shows. Reading rainbow, 321 contact, square one, zoobiliee zoo. I feel like two generations will run to donate even more money for shirts with Levar Burton on them…
