It was just to stop the transfer of rust to our hands or our clothing when opening it. You could use it without the sealer, no problems, we chose just to clear coat it so it was smooth to touch and no transfer of rust. We used Rust-Oleum 2 x Ultra Cover Satin Clear from Bunnings, just under $20

we put ours in 12 months ago and really like it. We sealed it up with a matt finish spray. Have not had any issues with letters getting wet

yes I have. I don't usually get the migraine headache with it, but I have sometimes. I find an energy drink seems to help speed up the recovery time, but that just may be me thinking it helps. I can go for long periods without having them and the last 2 months it has happened probably 6 or 7 times.
