Good on Penn Jillette. Having to come to terms with your entire political identity and philosophy being wrong is not easy and most people could never do it.

I had to go uncharacteristically short writing abt the potentially deadly eviction wave coming to Chicago--& the rest of the US--this winter, but there is more to come.

Of the stories I've written since coming back from leave, this is the one I hope most people read.
2/ more than 5,800 chicagoans are at risk of losing their housing and being forced back into homelessness thanks to the trump administration's planned cuts to permanent supportive housing.

"people will die" as a result of the policy, one program director told @katieprout.bsky.social.
Make It Make Sense: Cook County’s new chief judge
Plus: Trump slashes housing funding and the American Indian Health Service of Chicago celebrates 51 years.

i am looking at chicago public schools student enrollment data, something that strikes me with a dataset that is 24 years worth of data is you can really see the rise of charter schools and selective enrollment high schools

the neighborhood high schools really became churn factories

for example
my favorite data files in Chicago is called the tarantula file 🕷️

it's a file that chicago public schools made to understand how many kids live inside a school attendance boundary, how many attend that school + how many come from outside a boundary

form follows function, buildings follow kids

@bsky.app last week my DMs were cut off. Moderation said I could not be trusted.

Hours later, you said it was a mistake.

Then you cut off them off again—but said it was my fault, tho wouldn't explain (before turning them back on.)

Maybe @sarahkendzior.bsky.social's ban is a mistake, too?

Wanna see what happened after Border Patrol shot a woman in Chicago?

So do @chicago.suntimes.com and @illinoisanswers.bsky.social. So we asked CPD for videos.

But the cops said no — because a chief is accused of waving off the police response and is facing investigation.

Over the last few months, I've been taking a closer look at one of three special prosecutors tapped by the state's attorney's office to oppose Kevin Jackson's certificate of innocence. Jackson was wrongfully convicted and spent 23 years incarcerated.
