End of the season, gotta empty the galley but there isn't much time to cook. I call it “boat food”, cook with whatever is about to go bad.

One of my fave writers on sailing. Drew Frye is not some clown on the internet with a sailboat and too much spare time. [Nervous looks around the room.] He writes *a lot*, meticulously, and in-depth, earning a few awards along the way. His blog is full of excellent info.

Not a lot of good sailing films out there. Here’s one that is: Styx. It’s a German film about a sailor who heads out to get away from it all. Then things get complicated not by weather but by compassion.

From the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. It’s a painting of Roman ships from Pompeii, a nearby town. Apparently Pompeii was next to the water back in the day but something big happened that moved the shoreline. I’ll keep you posted when they discover what that was.

Captain Kidd (c. 1645-1701) was hired as pirate pest controller but he pissed off too many high-placed people by lying to them and never actually catching any pirates. In turn, they demonized him almost literally, including alleging that he buried his Bible to secure the devil’s favour.

Like clockwork, the wind and waves die down at sunset on Lake Ontario. Motoring back to the mooring.

I went to the Maritime Museum of Barcelona to see a replica of the Real (“Reial” in Catalan) galley. The original was built to kick Ottoman ass in the 16th century. Speaking of ass, how about that stern.
