we used them to test builds on disc, the dev kits for us were pci boards that went into a computer. later we used a thing called a cat flap, an isa card, and ps1s with parrell ports to hot swap level data. later on no one wanted to use the blue ps1s because they still had the color banding issue.

Yeah, the official ps1 dev kits were pci boards with a break out box for the controllers and memory cards. There was also a 3 board analyzer that was used for optimization

It had a lot and these inserts that sat over the buttons so you would know what they did in game.

My roommate bought one and we loaded it with 8 aa batteries it needed. The batteries were dead in less than an hour.
