Lobby cards for DESERT NIGHTS, a proto-noir, nasty, sweaty silent crime picture. Not quite as harsh as it probably should have been (this was MGM and not Lon Chaney) but excellent atmosphere

Poor Japanese editions of The October Country
#poorpaperback #booksky
October 1st.
I’m rereading Ray Bradbury’s October Country.
The paperback on the right is worn out from being read too many times, and even the newer one I bought on the left is already tattered.
Looking at the colophon, it says 16th printing, issued on June 14, 1974—already 50 years ago…

poor House of Leather by the Fran Lebowitz as "Jim Conway" 🤯
#poorpaperback #booksky
Remember that time Fran Lebowitz wrote a porno? No? Well, she did in 1971 under a pseudonym and this is it. I saw a copy at the NY fair for $1250 a few years ago and cried. Got it this week for $35. Patience & knowing where to look are everything in book collecting. #DailyPaperback

i've only read the crusty old pyramid books paperback! i wonder how different the non-lensman version is? i will say that even though the '50s books are still you know, OLD, i definitely remember enjoying grey lensman the most and then thinking children of the lens jumped the shark.

Beisbol ex-voto reminiscent of Roseboro incident.
Does this ref. a known game incident??
(I searched the named players but came up short; also, it's from 2020 or prior.)

Sad to hear about the passing of acting legend Robert Redford. Before he was a member of the New York Knights, photographer Steve Schapiro captured Redford playing baseball in Central Park with his son and daughter.
