Blogging less than the olden days. Still working to make public services better, now in healthcare regulation.
A problem also avoided by not voting through the medium of superannuated hole punches.

He is a GOAT. And goats get slaughtered, however well intentioned.

@profserious.bsky.social has wise words on how the very smartest goats may survive, but being a ministerial goat is the hardest of all.

That's unkind.

You clearly haven't read revision 6 of chapter 13 which provides complete clarity when read alongside the retained elements of revision 2 and the cross references to the Instructions for Disuse policy (but noting that these are to the 2021 version and have not yet been updated).

When did they switch it round to make the sun rise in the west? That's an extraordinary feat of orbital dynamics - credit should be given when it's due.

It was another world back then - inferring where the second bus might be was a very dark art
Game over
Some evenings on my way home from work, I play a small private game of chicken. Now I have played it for the last time. If there are too many people at the bus stop – and no, I don’t kn…

But is it complete?

I nervously looked out of the window at the paving stones below expecting to see a rather flattened squirrel, but there was no trace. It had presumably run down the building and skipped across the road to the park.
November 6, 2025 at 9:16 AM
It is. I cherish the memory when I worked on the third floor - a squirrel came up in the lift and wandered into our room followed by a small bevy of people armed with a cardboard box intent on capturing and removing it. The squirrel was having none of that and eventually jumped out of the window.

Oh indeed, I had a desk by just such a window for a while, very much not overlooking King Charles Street.

So I am now wondering if I am mixing, up two things - the team of people amazed to be there I was thinking of did end up on the fourth floor, but had earlier been on the third.

Definitely the towers, but glimpses from the floor below as well, despite the obstacles
November 5, 2025 at 10:52 PM
I am pretty sure there are windows on the fourth floor from which you can see Big Ben - I remember as a grizzled veteran of Whitehall how excited some new recruits were by that (unless my memory had gone awry, it was over ten years ago)

But it was grim that day. The canteen ran out of food because we weren't allowed to leave the building for a while. Much consternation was caused.

I raise you the Elephant and Castle - sitting in a cafe on a very rare visit, more or less on the spot I worked as a student summer job 40 odd years ago. Nobody who is here now looks anything like anybody who was here then .

Thank you - I knew there was another one, but it didn't come up when I searched for it, so that's really helpful

And given all those triumphs, no surprise that there is a museum to celebrate them

Though my assumption that all rental knives are blunt led to an interesting tour of the minor injuries units of Cornwall last year.

If you tenderise the meat enough, it matters less that all the knives are blunt. Impressively joined up thinking.

The chicken which is 50% garlic should not be overlooked in the rush to get hammered

So you'll be working for MS by then, ready to be seconded to it?

Perhaps the High Court should be crowdfunding, given its clear need for a new rubber stamp.

Pluto is not only god of the underworld, but brings a nice echo of the WW2 PLUTO and even a faint hint of trains to Marne-la-Vallée
