Though not noted in this article, this is where professional Chaplains are of great value. Clinically trained, and competent to honor both the indigenous traditions that have held sacred substances and the participants' own beliefs/spirituality.

There is a deep evidence base demonstrating the presence of "mystical-type" experience with psychedelics and strong support for this as a mediating factor in clinical improvements. This comes with benefits and risks that need to be addressed. But they don't even mention it.

The evidence base makes this omission glaring and potentially dangerous when it comes to Adverse Events.

I know of a Utah-based research project that just got IRB approval for this. Hopefully a sign of more to come.
