It is #LongCOVID Awareness Day. At least 10% of people will experience symptoms for many months, even years after COVID. These can be debilitating & impact everyday things we all take for granted. We hear you! Our lab is studying the causes behind LC. We hope to find better diagnostics & treatments.

Australia has gone from exporting military "items" to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to kill Yemenis to deploying Australian troops to kill Yemenis directly.

You guys at @australianlabor.bsky.social truly are deplorable.

Time for Labor to deliver on its promise to end native forest logging & grow tourism-based economies.

Taxing multi-national gas extractors commensurately & stopping free ride on capital gains for property investors could eliminate student debt burden of Higher Education Contribution Scheme & fund non-cosmetic dental care under Medicare.
Yet incumbent govt choses to maintain the status quo

Two different, but related, points:

- Every dollar of tax not collected is 'foregone', so the framing is suboptimal (there are billions 'foregone' by not taxing everyone at 50%, for e.g.).

- The 50% discount had no basis in policy and CGT should go back to indexation.

Australia’s housing affordability crisis is not that difficult to solve: increase supply and lower demand by ending the incentives that treat housing as an investment vehicle rather than someone’s home. Now if only we had a government brave enough to do it.

A reminder the Albanese Government is paying a private American prison company with an appalling human rights record $2.3 billion over 5 years to run our onshore detention centres. Appalling especially now with the power to strip search people without a warrant & to take their phones for any reason.

The electricity mafia…
#auspol
"For every $100 paid by a retail customer of AGL, a mere $12 goes on generating the electricity,"

Our research shows $35 of every $100 goes to the energy companies profit.

Ross Gittins with a great write up. #auspol
Voters blame one man for rising energy bills while companies get away with gouging
We’ve been told the recent leap in power prices has been caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But that’s a tiny part of the story.
