Well I suppose it depends on the definition of regional. It always takes place on campuses in the NE and the committee is drawn from around here. Presenters, as I said above, have come from all over for as long as I can remember, though perhaps long ago that was not the case.

Ah I see — certainly our presenters can and do come from anywhere — regional, national, international. And that’s always been the case. But the committee and attendees (and, indeed, the bulk of the presenters) are usually from the region, broadly construed

which features three invited guests whose work bears on that year’s theme. Everyone at the conference is invited to a lunch where the next year’s theme is selected. Anyone at that lunch can pitch a theme, and then it is decided by vote then and there.

NVSA puts out a general call for papers and anyone can submit. The abstracts are vetted anonymously by a programming committee of approximately 20 people from different ranks and institutions. About 15 papers are selected (again, anonymous vetting) from these submissions. There is a keynote panel +
