starting a 🧵 of hospital and clinic closures due to Medicaid cuts in the MAGA murder bill:
given that anywhere between 15% to a quarter of construction workers nationwide are undocumented, you could make the argument that politicians like Vance who oppose illegal immigration and support mass deportation want to make buying a home more expensive for Americans
you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

for the record, this is how the @nytimes.com covered Bloomberg, a man elected to the same office as Katie Wilson with the exact same amount of experience in public office as Katie Wilson, but whom the paper did not view with obvious contempt www.nytimes.com/2001/11/07/n...

What makes people furious is of course how the NYT uses its own wide discretion about what to pursue, what to beat the drum on, when to have qualms about running with something, and when to just put it out there. There’s the rules, and then there’s the rules about when you apply the rules.
here at the Paper of Record, when an open white supremacist leaks someone's college application in an attempt to imply he got unfair race-based special treatment, even though he was rejected, we know what to do: publish it immediately prospect.org/2025/07/09/2...

We are invited to assume that the New York Times did not know what Epstein was telling Landon Thomas about Trump. I decline to extend that charity.

If Epstein wanted the NYT to write about it, he should have made it about a Democrat and gotten a white nationalist hacker to leak it to them.

This is a newspaper that published numerous stories about a 17 year old from Uganda checking a box on a college form that said “African American”
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

yes, it’s not one news story, it is several – one of the most famous pedophiles in the world alleges he has photos of the then- Republican presidential candidate with young girls

oh, and also while this was going on, they were 3) feasting like hogs at a trough on the fruits of a russian hack and leak operation which turned up very little of substance.

if you don't judge these results, what should you be judging?

I think a lot of the decisions along the way are defensible in the micro.

But, in the broader picture, NYT:

1) had an Epstein double-agent on staff
2) missed everything having to do with that story and the close links to a presidential frontrunner and later president

that's a massive failure

This clip is going to be a perfect encapsulation of the zeitgeist of this year. It hasn't even been two weeks and Scarborough's credulousness is already "lol, lmao" and that will only get wider with time. Then how it ends with "now let's talk about ships being blown up off the coast of Venezuela"
MOULTON: If you're like Trump & took advantage of girls w/Epstein-

SCARBOROUGH: We don't have evidence he took advantage of girls w/Epstein

M: Common sense be damned

S: Is he in the files?

M: Obviously

S: You have absolutely no evidence he took advantage of girls

M: I think it's pretty obvious

honestly one of the most striking things about epstein's emails is the fact that the man, described in many places as "a genius," is essentially subliterate

DISCHARGE PETITION TICK-TOCK

Rep. Grijalva will sign the petition Wednesday after she’s sworn in and makes remarks on the floor

Her 218th signature starts the clock on the 7-legislative day wait until it can be called up, which means it would likely ripen on Tuesday Nov 25 during the pro forma

Grijalva just signed the Epstein discharge petition.

It now has the 218 signatures necessary to start the clock that will, in a few weeks, trigger floor votes on the underlying bill to require release of the full Epstein files.
