We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

Heard two references two Caleb Williams performing “Houdini” acts during the broadcast of the Bears game today. Next year will be 100 years since Harry Houdini died. We must have really fallen off in escape artist production if we don’t have any more recent examples we can use.

RIP Paul Tagliabue.

Tom Benson tried to move the Saints to San Antonio permanently after Katrina -- so much so that it was reported by ESPN as a done deal.

Will never forget Tagliabue stopping that shit in its tracks

Remember this intentional grounding when someone complains that Mahomes gets all the calls.

Nobody "gets all the calls." The officials make bad calls randomly.

it is BONKERS how much people will stan for billionaires who do nothing instead of their employees who do all the work
It's really telling how many people are pushing back on this, buying into owners crying poor. The D-Rays just sold for $1.7 billion. They had an $88 million payroll this year. Many teams are owned by billionaires or consortiums that can raise that kind of money (and there are revenue streams).

The Dodgers have already made their money back on the money they’ve promised Ohtani and Yamamoto due to ticket/merch sales and Japanese sponsorships.

Any team could have done this!

Ohtani deferred his contract and offered the same terms to everyone!
Guys like Freddie and Ohtani and Mookie are also there because the Dodgers were the organization willing to pay workers their fair market value as opposed to most of the rest of the league working as a cartel to depress worker pay!
As a have-not fan, I manage to find a way to hate every sports dynasty, but I don't mind and often like the Dodgers. I don't really know why. Freddie? Ohtani is fun to watch? Mookie helps Nashville youth sports? They seem OK to me.

Not a profound or nuanced observation, obviously, but I am really struggling with how fucking evil everything is every day. Everything I love and admire about this stupid and amazing country just constantly getting vandalized and brutalized by people who hate all those things. Not digging it.

The Republican Party is more or less built on reactionary opposition to the Democrats policies rather than their own actual policy ideas, and unfortunately the Democrats’ most recent policy was “having a strong economy”
The funniest thing about all this is Joe Biden built a "bring back US manufacturing" button and Trump could have just kept pressing it but instead he insisted on smashing the "crash the stock market" button

When I was 25 I was sad I had not written The Great American Novel. At 55, I realize there's no Great American Novel, there are merely the stories I'm the best person to tell. Don't worry about how others see greatness. Work on being the best version of who you are and what you can do in the world.
