They have been doing it for years at the airport. When you go thru US pre clearance at the airport photo is taken. When we fly into Canada from overseas, Canada customs takes our photo. Europe is rolling out photos and fingerprints.

My nextdoor neighbour was diagnosed with dementia caused by Covid. My mother died this summer from a Parkinsons Plus syndrome I suspect was caused by covid. So yes this is real.

Your friend should just pity the person who is so delusional and obviously has serious mental problems. Ignore them. Not worth the energy.
