“That person comes from a place where emissions today are around half of the global average.”

While current NDC scenarios (nationally determined contributions) project a future of 2.7 ºC global warming, limiting global warming to 1.5 ºC will vastly decrease the numbers harmed.
Research that compels: “The lifetime emissions of ~3.5 global average citizens today (or ~1.2 average US citizens) expose one future person to unprecedented heat by end-of-century.” Timothy M. Lenton et al, “Quantifying the Human Cost of Global Warming,” Nature Sustainability, 22 May 2023.
This.
My write up on Hegseth: He is a Christian nationalist who wants to Christianize the military, is a credibly accused sexual predator, likely has a drinking problem, cheated on all of his wives, screams "Kill All Muslims," has 0 experience, & will get people killed.

Obviously the Gender Critical movement is going to welcome any and all fascism, especially when it is harming trans people

Still grim they can claim that they're supporting material reality by claiming sex is determined at conception, which is unambiguously false, without any media pushback at all

To the world: Please forgive the U.S. No, that's not it. Please resist and fight the U.S. government's denialism, erasure of vulnerable populations, ignorance of science, and commitments to inequality and extractive (tech) capitalism.

A bracing thought: for many public servants, just continuing to do their jobs, to send out checks, to post RFPs, to interview candidates, now constitutes an act of radical faith that the US is a nation of laws, and not of men.

The thing is, the more people keep doing just that, the more it's true.
Trump Day One executive order is an illegal deferral under the Impoundment Control Act.

It also seems as though Trump is (accidentally? purposefully?) demanding the US break its contracts for funding that has been obligated but not yet outlaid in saying no funds shall be disbursed.

Happy MLK Jr. Day, my friends. In 1968, Dr. King spoke the following words, which are equally true today:

"The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land; confusion all around.... But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars."

We must find & feed the points of light.

‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.’ — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On #MLKDay, we honor his legacy by choosing love over hate, justice over injustice, and hope over fear.

#OTD in 1929, we celebrate Dr. King’s true birthday—separate from the later holiday. The same issues he marched against decades ago still impact our world today.

Let’s remember his example of nonviolent civil disobedience and keep working to make his dream a reality.
