Just received this lovely photo of our year 6 medics & 3 medical fellows from the @stcatharines.bsky.social MedSoc electives evening

They grow so fast! ❤️🩺

Seems just the other day that I was supervising them in first year physiology. Now they’re be my colleagues in less than a year!

Greatly enjoyed the @stcatharines.bsky.social MedSoc electives evening. All 6 years of our lovely students spent an evening together hearing what our 6th years did on elective: from refuge camps in Athens and Calais, to GP in remote Peruvian villages, and high-tech surgery in the US and Singapore

Mwahaha !

In @stcatharines.bsky.social today to meet year 3 medical students. Next year, they’ll move up to the clinical school & I’ll become their director of studies. PfP (preparing for patients) meetings aim to help the transition from the basic science part of their course to the clinic part 🩺🎃

Bahamas flag flying over @stcatharines.bsky.social in #BlackHistoryMonth

Why the Bahamas? I understand the flag commemorates the College’s connections with the Bahamas thanks to its earliest known Black student, Alfred F. Adderley CBE (1912 Law)

After lots more fascinating talks, Prof Robert Rintoul, Prof Judy Coulson & I went out to discover Philadelphia.

Yes, there was at least one Manhattan 🍸

Day 1 Philadelphia supplemental: Conference opening reception finger food.

The inevitable Philly Cheesesteak (probably the first of several), the twist being it’s from "Impossible Meat" ie veggie (but you wouldnt know)

And Yards Pale Ale - a Philadelphia craft ale, rather too much hops for me

Day 1 Philadelphia: Flight over with cheeky business free upgrade 🤭

Starter - Beetroot and British Cox apple tartare
Main - Short rib beef pie
Pudding - Warm apple crumble and almond pie

Generaciones Reserva Pinot Noir 2024, Chile (probably quite good but at altitude tasted a bit metallic)
October 27, 2025 at 12:17 AM
Nice surprise: upgraded to business.

The university, quite rightly, would never allow such extravagance and I’m too cheap to spend so much anyway.

Will definitely help me to do more work on the 8 hour flight 😁

Lovely morning walk near #PapworthWood before heading off to the airport (me not Zosia, that is 😁)

Influenza is taking off already. If you can get vaccinated, please do (I did 2 weeks ago).

If you think you have ‘flu but aren’t so ill as to need medical care, please do the right thing and isolate. Influenza is still a very serious infection for many people.

Day 2 Paris: excellent series of talks (slides often in English but most talks in French 🇬🇧🇫🇷). Mixture of journal club style with some new data. Very educational.
