Hey, I’m doing a little research on the perceptions of reading and reading education in the US. I’m a reading remediation teacher (among my many hats), and I want to see how people are thinking. #education

I feel like it’s time for me to revive the preteen/teenage millennial pastime of posting vague song lyrics while I wallow in the angst of my white Protestant Midwestern middle-class suburban upbringing.

Hot take: AI isn’t going anywhere in the secondary and post-secondary ELA classrooms. We need to learn to harness it, and teach our students to use its potential for good. We can’t stick our heads in the sand about it forever, and avoiding it or banning it is only going to bite us in the butt later.

Statements like: “the govt. is just trying to distract us” really undermines the very valid fears people have imo. We can & should take everything Trump says as a serious threat. He’s not trying to distract us. He’s telling us exactly what he plans to do

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general.

If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

I want to know why people aren’t as up in arms about the education executive orders as they were about the immigration or government funding orders! #education #politics #censorship

Our problem in education is not indoctrination. Our children CANNOT READ. It is the cornerstone, foundational skill for most learning! It’s not about creating a better educated society; it’s about creating compliant, submissive, and surface level thinkers. Those who will ask “how” but not “why.”

So I started a new #crochet and #reading project. Someone posted a video of them making a granny square for each book they read that year, and the square is in the main colors of the book cover art. The first book was The Black Bird Oracle by @debharkness.bsky.social

"You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” - Ray Bradbury

Cultural destruction can be subtle and insidious by discouraging or disincentivizing reading and intellectual engagement.

So, what have you read recently?
