We are but academicians for the working day: politics, comics, movies, art, and other stuff too. Chicagoan trapped among Deplorables. Posts mine alone.
"He's doing a building. He talked about the marble that is going to be put in. He said, 'am I better at building or am I better at politics?' It relaxes him to think about these projects."

War on Terrorism #movie 🎬🎥 take: "Zero Dark Thirty" is dead boring and 45 minutes too long. I get it: intelligence work is a lot of shoe-leather frustration and dead ends. But even the most earnest 1950s police procedurals did more to generate viewer interest.

Look at the bright side: the sailors used their Warrior Ethos Lethality to Lethally show their Warrior comrades how to ruthlessly be Lethal while not having a beard or being fat, lethally. If those pilots really had been ChiCom Houthi Venezuelan Narcojihadmunists, they would F - A - F - *O*

The first-generation Mercury Capri *was* cool -- German-built and Ford badged in Europe, imported from 1970-74. The second-generation 1979-86 "Capri II," on the other hand...meh. It was just a rebadged Mustang with trim variation.

They were gonna ride those bales of weed all the way to Hoboken, I tell ya, like Brody and Hooper kicking their way to Amity Island after blowing up Bruce the Shark.

Yikes. This band of maybe 2nd cousins once removed is supposed to be an elite group of paratroopers, but they whine, bitch, gripe, and shout in the jungle while they're supposed to be evading Japanese patrols hunting them. Surprisingly weak, especially for a late-war Warners propaganda 🎥.

I can't help but think our country would be in much better shape emotionally if we could still go to the station and get on a midnight train going anywhere.

SO FRUSTRATING! Watching the fabulous 🎬🎥 "Cotton Comes to Harlem" (1970) and am DESPERATE for a list of locations, but somehow that seems to be the one thing nobody's ever thought to do.

How could anyone have expected anything else? We're talking about so textbook a bridge-and-tunnel social climber whose envy of *real* elites - like royal families - is so transparent and palpable that he has spent his life mimicking it, to the point of inventing a coat of arms for himself.

"...lucky indeed is the writer who has grown up in Ireland, for the English spoken there is so amusing and musical. I myself grew up in Indianapolis, where common speech sounds like a band saw cutting galvanized tin, and employs a vocabulary as unornamental as a monkey wrench."
