In beautiful Batsford Arboretum today. Initially I thought they might have meant ‘feeding voraciously’, but perhaps it is indeed ‘vivaciously’. I really like the idea of a vivacious bee.

BBC4 is repeating Bryan Magee’s 1987 series, The Great Philosophers, and I introduce it next Monday 13th at 22.30. I remember being very impressed when it went out that my wonderful PhD supervisor, Myles Burnyeat, was in the very first episode!

Just returned from filming in a studio off Brick Lane. It’s a vibrant, friendly, cheerily multicultural quarter of London with churches, mosques and synagogues. Georgian, Afghan and Japanese restaurants side by side in this short stretch. London is thriving with Sadiq Khan as Mayor.

Making elderberry syrup from foraged berries, plus caster sugar, lemon juice, half a cinnamon stick and a couple of cloves. I started with 365g of de-stalked berries.

I had a small pond installed in early June. Still very much a work in progress but it’s starting to flourish. Insects, birds, a hedgehog and (I think) a fox. There were tadpoles but I don’t know whether they became frogs. I have just sown meadowsweet in the bare earth on the left.
