Dear world: when you read today about Trump firing all the probationary feds, I need you to understand that the federal government has its own vocabulary. Probationary DOES NOT MEAN BAD. Trump is relying on you to assume you understand words and not go find out things.

Hey all! I know the world crazy right now and everyone is trying to help people who need it, but this fundraiser is for a kid I know. Gavin is a 19-year-old who has had a crazy bad year and is now living in a church parking lot. Any donation or share would be an amazing help. gofund.me/3bbf11ff

Once again, I’m begging the media not to headline what Trump says he will do as if speaking the magic words dissolves reality
In the coming days you’ll see headlines like, “ICE Can Now Come Into Your House Without a Warrant.”

They will be false.

Trump’s Attorney General, who once accepted a bribe from him when she was FL AG, instructed her agents to ignore the 4th Amendment of the US Constitution.

That’s the story.

What percent approve of arresting state-court judges for asking ICE for warrants?
Remarkable from WaPo poll: Trump sinking fast on immigration among independents.

56% disapprove of handling of issue
62% oppose removing foreign students
52% oppose renditions to El Salvador
Only 21% want Abrego Garcia left there

Engage, Dems.

New piece from me:

Trump Is Suddenly Bleeding Independents. A Brutal New Poll Shows Why.
Immigration was his best issue in the polls. But now he's sinking on it. Maybe Americans care about the rule of law after all.

and to be honest I found various acts of conformity to be both startlingly foreign and impressively intimidating. A guy setting a trash can on fire is one guy feeling feisty. but a thousand strangers sitting down in neat rows apropos of nothing is a veiled threat.

An attention-grabbing thing R1 presidents could do is to announce that should NIH (etc) cuts happen, they will reappropriate all athletics allocations into research to protect the core of their academic enterprise. If presidents had the chutzpah, this could stop the administration in its tracks.

We can celebrate Weyne:

1. this man is returned to US soil

2. the illegal deportations stop
"U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis, MD, ordered the Trump admin. to return Kilmar Abrego García, husband of a U.S. citizen, to the U.S. no later than Monday, 11:59. Supporters outside the courtroom cheered"
People-power, political pressure and the judiciary won!

Two comments on the Luigi Mangione news.

First, it's absurd DOJ is prosecuting this crime at all. New York could successfully prosecute it. But, New York doesn't have the death penalty, and DOJ loves few things more than bringing a capital case in a state without the death penalty.
