I use 3 raycasts (not sure if this is efficient or not)

One ray checks if an obstacle is in the way (stomach height). Another checks above the player for free space, aka whether the obstacle is small enough to climb. A third ray checks where the "climb" point should be.

Explained: Three rooms are chained after each other. The room furthest in the back is moved forward when there are no rooms left in the front. I decided to not destroy / re-instantiate the rooms but move them, I think this will be better for performance.

Maybe this will be the basis for a lil game.

I see where you are coming from, but I think it's important to know what you're developing and for what purpose. I'm working on a monster/enemy, not an animal. If making realistic animals were my focus, then the behaviour would be much closer to something you described (and I'd make it much smaller)
