Celebrating St Martin in the center of Bonn. Children with lanterns, a legionary on a white horse, and a huge bonfire!

Spending a couple of day at Harnack House in Berlin for the #LeadNet annual meeting of MPG Research Group Leaders. Fascinating to see how autonomy=diverse in MPI structures and management.

I’ve been at the airport for “watching the planes come and go and marvelling at the logistics of it all” long.

Great fun to attend the @mpinb.mpg.de Open Day today. Amazing to see their work connecting vision to brain activity in mice, fish, & hawks and in mapping the brain “wiring diagram”. I have a touch of building envy too!

I do like the way you walk in to Bonn Center and randomly find a huge wine festival in the Church platz. There’s a lot to like about this town.

Bonn has a plaque on the site of its Nazi era book burning. Hemingway, Marx, Sinclair, Brecht. Lots of familiar names.

The new Ray Dolby Center for the Cavendish Laboratory is a most un-Physics like building. Where’s the decaying concrete?

#SKAO2025 finishes with the announcement that the new SKA Chief Scientist will be … Naomi McClure-Griffiths! Fantastic choice and she proceeds to a fireside chat with the outgoing (1yr to go) SKA DG Phil Diamond.

Great #SKAO2025 conference summary from McClure-Griffiths. Ups: Community! Real SKA image/dishes! So much SKA Precursor science! Downs: Timeline, especially for MID. Lessons: Pretty public images matter, data is difficult, telescopes are always delayed.
