It’s the annual Spotify wrapped round up. Here are the top songs. Yes as you can see there isn’t much modern music, but I didn’t realise I was 87! 😂 #spotify #music

On Friday, me and my sister visited Hardwick Hall for their Christmas display. I haven’t been since university induction week 11 years ago and my sister had never been! 😱 Really enjoyed ourselves. History and Christmas, my 2 favourite things, can you tell? 😂 As my sister said, history chills! 🥰

I haven't been lucky with the books I've been reading lately. Started some that turned out not to be very good and couldn't finish them. Just started this one about a spunky young woman joining the ATS in the Second World War. Really enjoying this so far.

Anyone who knows me will know I HATE sport. PE was the worst thing ever at school. What I am for though is for women to have a choice in what they do, even better if they beat men! Recently, I have been looking into the Dick, Kerr Ladies football team. An amazing story and may be a future talk.

Just gave my first talk on the Suffragette Hospital at Endell Street. Was quite stressful to think what to include or not. Went well, so I’m very relieved. To celebrate, here’s a photo of the operating theatre in their first hospital in a Paris hotel in the ladies’ toilets!

Looking for a Christmas present for a history lover or a fan of the Wars of the Roses? Then my biography of Anthony Woodville only has 12 copies left on Amazon! It’s also slightly reduced too.

Tony Bear had a day out today to a coffee morning with friends as part of a treasure/memory session.

For years whenever I was asked what my type was, I couldn’t answer. Realised all along it should have been tall men with big hearts, preferably in period costume! 😂

Been on a nostalgia trip the last few days attending talks by a few of my university lecturers as part of Derby Book Festival. So pleased to meet up with Ruth again on women and the country house. Look forward to reading more and gaining new favourite historical women.

For anyone interested in my new talk on the Suffragette Hospital, I will be debuting it in my home town on Saturday 22nd October. This story should be better known than it is, so it means so much to share this.

I have been working on a new talk: The Suffragette Hospital.
I have found it quite difficult to shoehorn 3 hospitals run by Flora Murray and Louisa Garrett Anderson during the First World War to treat soldiers. They still have some champions in the 21st century. Image: London School of Economics.

Been getting some bookings for newer talks lately. It's time to start working on the Suffragette Hospital at Endell Street during the First World War. I've been booked for this as a kind of follow up of my Crimean War Nurses talk to discuss what it was like for women in medicine 60 years later.

Last tour of the season and seems apt the Derby Cathedral bells are ringing!

Just received this review from Amanda over on Goodreads for Anthony Woodville: Sophisticate or Schemer. Wow, what a lovely review!! 🥰 I’ve felt unwell for the last few days and this has cheered me up no end! ❤️❤️

Sometimes I forget that the White Queen actor for Anthony Woodville, Ben Lamb (currently in The Guilded Age) follows me over on Instagram. Then I have this as a reminder… 😍

I ordered my first items from SHEIN (yeah I know behind the times and all that). This dress was one of them. I had no idea what to expect but I love it! Looks just like the picture and even has pockets! 😍 Perfect for wearing on Saturday for my Crimean War Nurses talk.

This Saturday, I’ll be in my hometown talking about Crimean War Nurses. Please do come along if you’re local to Derbyshire. Includes a free buffet! #historytalks #victorian #crimeanwar #derbyshire #florencenightingale #maryseacole

Comments left on blog posts I’ve written lately. One for work on Fred Arkwright (died in a plane crash) and one for my blog on Mary Prince (first black female slave biography). These both mean so much to me. A reminder as to why I do what I do, to help share people’s stories. 🥰

Just received this lovely review about the Georgian Belper tour last week. Lovely to hear that they have been sharing things with their family. The last tour of the season is for Belper on Friday 31st October, starting at 11am. Tickets via Eventbrite. www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/georgian-d...

When you realise that four of the men you've researched over the years are all called Anthony or Tony... I promise I do research people with other names too! 😂

Just given a talk at Sawley Women’s Institute on Eleanor Coade, artificial stone manufacturer, and one of my favourite historical women. It’s only the second time I’ve given this talk. Good reception, which means a lot to a still fairly new talk. Image: Wellcome Collection.

For anyone local to Belper, I’m talking at Belper Historical Society on Thursday night on the subject of my debut history book, Anthony Woodville, the maternal uncle of the Princes in the Tower. It’s free for members and £5 to visitors. My book will also be available to buy too.
