BAD ACTORS SEED BAD INFORMATION. Through the use of "whisper campaigns", gossip chains and unverified claims, a Disinformation Campaign (DC) is a coordinated effort by political actors to distort the flow of accurate information (& make false info) in order to misrepresent a person or topic. This can range from a storm of bots & alt accounts, the targeting of trusted figures to carry bad info, spam attacks (brigading) and plain ol' misinformation. Similar to a SLAPP suit (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation), these tools are used to obfuscate or misdirect away from an issue of concern by overwhelming bystanders or the target of their attack. Even true information is destroyed through lies of omission. Think of the game "telephone" but with systems & media. While these are just some strategies, when combined, the goal is to attack true information from all sides. The final goal isn't necessarily to propagate a new narrative (sometimes it is)... rather its to confuse the public about what is true too thoroughly to investigate it properly. This becomes especially relevant as we look at voter disenfranchisement campaigns, scandal cover ups, character assassinations and radicalization pipelines. KNOW HOW TO SPOT IT. KNOW HOW TO STOP IT. "Bad Information Kills Communities", describing how the passing of gossip, participation in rumor mills, and the intentional disregard of care around the handling of sensitive info tends to manifest immediate negative impacts in our communities. Challenge information: Who told you that? Where did you hear that? Confirm source: Were they there? What was their involvement? Corroborate details: Who else was there? Did they see the same thing? Relay the facts: Verify what you can prove, share what first- hand reports say and end unconfirmed speculation w/ certainty "Misinformation Disproportionately Hurts The Networks of Marginalized Communities", describing how it is common for media spheres to further the "othering" of targeted groups until they exist as caricatures and stereotypes inside the dominant social culture, and that social activism, as opposed to militant resistance organizing, is dominated by disaffected socialites with access to capital, disposable income, and a surplus of resources. While the most common purveyor of bad information is well-meaning allies with poor security practice, and not a psy-op, these socialites are vulnerable to spreading bad information indifferent of how hand-crafted it may be. So while the conditions of these socialites might survive a targeted disinfo campaign, the damage they can inflict on marginalized networks by spreading disinfo can prove deadly to targeted groups, who already live under a scarcity of resources and support. Anti Police Terror Project has seemingly gotten away with some disgusting ass union busting, which impacted many people in my affinity group.

But a small win today.

I noticed they received a grant this month from a group headed by friends of mine, and I reached out to explain the situation.
Thank you for sharing so deeply, and I'm very sorry that you and the people close to you are going through this. I also want to be clear about what we're doing on our end. We have removed APTP from the Mutual Aid General Fund and will not be including them in future funding cycles. Thank you again for reaching out and raising these concerns.

Stormé DeLarverie was a protector in the literal terms of the word.
At the end of her performing career she worked as a bouncer for a lesbian bar and patrolled the street with a gun to check on the queer people and sex workers in her neighbourhood until she was 84 years old.
