It looks like Europe has to prepare to defend itself against Russia and an at best ambivalent US. Putin will likely see a window of opportunity to act before the end of the trump administration
A French nuclear deterrent for Europe (preferably with UK assistance) while Europe actually commits to rearmament, reindustrialization and a reduction in foreign dependence would be the best case scenario.

Remember: Trump or Russian propagandists might say otherwise, but Putin is not winning, and the Ukrainians are not losing.
I am told that internal Ukrainian army information shows that more than 26,000 Russian soldiers were killed or critically wounded in the month of November. Confirmed by videos. No wonder Putin wants to get Trump to give him territory for free

Putin: ‘Russia is ready to keep fighting until the last Ukrainian dies.’

Western politicians & press: ‘Peace talks have stalled…’

Russia has zero interest in peace. Calling Kremlin demands for Ukrainian surrender ‘peace talks’ is just another way of spreading their propaganda.

Drugs are not weapons.

Drug traffickers are not terrorists.

The US wasn't attacked.

Boats on open water far from US coasts aren't a security threat.

There is absolutely no argument for self-defense in Caribbean boat strikes, nor in possible war with Venezuela.

This campaign is lies upon lies.
This is fundamentally the wrong way to deal with drug problems.

The campaign is built on lies.
The White House's lies about the illegal Caribbean boat strikes are so obvious and about such serious matters that they're floundering.

As @gregsargent.bsky.social and @jenrubin.bsky.social explain, specific strikes are criminal, but even more so, the entire campaign is blatantly illegal and wrong.

I've very much enjoyed Dutch historian Rutger Bregman's thoughts, although the BBC censored part of his criticism of Trump's corruption.

I tell Trump my peace terms, Trump tells Witkoff what they are and then Witkoff tells me Trump's terms that I told him then I say they aren't enough so we both blame Ukraine for me not accepting my own terms and I keep attacking them.

Thing is, there really were people who conceded this would happen and claimed it was nevertheless outweighed by the sovereignty Britain would gain. I wonder what happened to them.
Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

Russia has no intention of attacking Europe. We can write it down. Maybe that makes sense, meaning, if we want to talk about it together…We do realize that we need to sit down and discuss it seriously…

Russia has ordered Poland to close its consulate in Irkutsk in retaliation for the “hostile and unjustified” decision to shut Russia’s consulate in Gdańsk. Warsaw made that move in response to Russian sabotage of a rail line.

It means neither country will have any consulates operating in the other.

The war will end when Russia stops fighting. Therefore, pressure has to be put on Russia, so that they stop believing that they will win. Why is that so hard to understand?
