screenshot from a notes app: start text: sebastian krueger is an asset that the kommando spezialkräfte (german special forces) underutilised, in turn he'd grown bored, and neglected a mission to find his own targets. civilian casualties, yes, but nikolai had seen promise. nikolai keeps krueger's mind stimulated and hands busy, stops him from getting restless with challenging missions and pleasing his owner. he doesn't have the chance to get mouthy or rile up teammates when following orders, and in return nikolai gets a soldier that'll do even the dirtiest of jobs without complaint. jobs even the hardiest soldiers scrunch their noses at. mutts like krueger require effort, a firm leash, but he'll charge at anyone or thing his owner points him towards. you don't win fights, nikolai has learned, being afraid to get dirty. end text. screenshot from a notes app: start text: nikolai discovers price by chance in a russian prison, and decides to employ his own private military company — chimera — to rescue the captain. involving the 141 would create an international conflict, not to mention it'd be a huge conflict of interest. when price returns to britain, after five years in prison, it's incredibly bittersweet. he relishes the freedom but hates how unstructured life is outside the prison walls. he's also no longer the man that his team knew him to be, and he withdraws further when he realises they expect him to "heal" and return to his former self. after he makes a decent enough recovery, price decides to keep himself listed as killed in action and joins chimera. while there he gains the attention of sebastian krueger. he's just as, if not more, fucked up as price, and it's refreshing to be admired for this flawed version of himself that he currently is. nikolai is supportive of this new life, but krueger never knew the former john price, and doesn't care about price ever getting better. krueger doesn't just respect what he's done to survive, he's attracted to price's sharp edges, and lays bare his own rotten heart for price to eat. end text.
