For a book that spun out of a pun about a Shan, Lord of Light is a pretty captivating one. Roger Zelazny crafts a unique world that draws from Hinduism. While not as extensive in world building as Dune, there are parallels in both of these science fiction epics.

Akira Toriyama's Manga Theater is a must-have collection of the famed mangaka's (and a personal hero) early works for fans of his later (and more popular) works. It gives an insight into the designs & inspirations for the likes of Dragon Ball, and how Toriyama mastered his style over the decades.

'Facebook: The Inside Story' from @wired.com's @stevenlevy.bsky.social is a gripping (and depressing) deep dive into the commodification of our digital (and personal) data that Facebook/Meta fined tune; and gives ample opportunities to contemplate the existence of the company.

Some say that undertaking a PhD is a lonely journey, but it doesn't have to be the case!

This year's EU GREEN Summer School in Parma was filled with new connections, great craic & insights; all under the warm Italian sun and, of course, accompanied by the country's typically delicious food.

Great experience presenting my research this week at the inaugural EU GREEN Young Researchers Marathon this week in beautiful (and warm!) Badajoz, Spain!

Finished @nealstephenson.bsky.social 's Polostan today. As usual, it's an insightful read (although shorter by the author's standard) and feels like it's setting the scene for the upcoming tomes in a planned series. Looking forward to where it takes Aurora & co.!

I've just completed the Baroque Cycle, @nealstephenson.bsky.social's epic historical fantasy book series. I'm glad to have done so, even if it wasn't an easy read. My fav bits are with Jack & the pirates. Looking forward to starting Polostan, but first I've to dive into the future of healthcare 👀

This is the Chromatic, @modretro.bsky.social 's excellent remake of the Game Boy Color. It plays original Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges, and the company is publishing new games too!

Got my hands on @nealstephenson.bsky.social's latest book, Polostan. It's less lengthy than his other books at ~300 pages, so it'll be my next read but I have to finish The System of the World first!

Finished the classic RPG Mother today. First released on the NES, a GBA version was released with some quality of life improvements. It's recommended if you want to experience the first installment of an influential franchise.

Took some time but I finally managed to beat original Final Fantasy VII. It's an impressive work for its time but some aspects haven't aged well like the combat & difficulty spikes. But it still delivers a strong impression with its plot & world building.
