Earlier this year, 33-year-old Ryan Thuresson died from a fentanyl overdose while in custody of San Diego Sheriff’s Department at the jail in Vista.

Sheriff Kelly Martinez still refuses to have deputies scanned for drugs when entering jails.

For the 15th month in a row, more people have fallen into homelessness than the number that have been housed in San Diego.

The latest count finds 884 people were housed in the month of June, while another 1,141 people entered homelessness for the first time.

24-year-old Elisa Serna told jail staff that she had a history of alcohol and drug abuse and was at risk of withdrawal.

“Despite this information, medical staff did not start her on the jail’s withdrawal protocol until four days later, the day before she died.”

27-year-old Pedro Junior Ornelas III was found unresponsive in his jail cell and died at a hospital Wednesday morning.

He is the 8th person to die in the San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s custody this year.

Most of the tents that were out for San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria’s press conference at the 20th & B sanctioned encampment have been removed and no more intakes til 7/10.

Still no shade, showers, and other necessary services.

They rushed it “open” so they can begin enforcing their homeless ban ASAP.
