Drinking diet soda has been linked to weight gain, but the jury is kind of still out because studies like that are really hard to verify. Bottom line is that diet soda itself won't give you diabetes, but the weight gain that it potentially causes could. As long as you're otherwise healthy it's fine.

It's challenging to "get" diabetes from one specific thing, rather, you get the risk factors for diabetes from them. Things to look out for are significant weight gain, being physically inactive, family history, and age.
