It's an interesting conflict to me, because the reason it is needed in most cases is that the devs go for realism in their environments and the real world is busy and often unstructured. But the yellow paint goes against that very realism by feeling very videogame-y.

TL;DR stylized keeps winning

SOTN is rightfully celebrated because they got a lot right on their first foray into that gameplay style, but it still has some hiccups here and there. Castlevania 4 meanwhile is a celebratory action romp that elevates the best parts of the earlier linear entries in the series.
