I cannot believe that Mike Gundy's heart-to-heart with his bosses and everyone's firm handshakes didn't prevent this
Look I get the roster and coaching overhaul…

But yikes, OkSt

Losing like that to that goal is so frustrating. But I guess it’s better than being bad

One of the most interesting teams in the world right now in my opinion. The way they use all of their players is fascinating. They have positional tendencies (3+2 or 3+3 buildup, want that front 5 in attack), but the players in those positions perpetually change... & they pass to them in motion too

Check out this example from the game where they're able to get their LB free, despite Binacional man-marking pretty intensely to start. Binacional's RW stops marking Cusco LB. CM drops to drag his marker as the pass to LB comes, freeing acres of space for himself

This is one element that separates them from a lot of other teams employing a 3+2 buildup in football nowadays. It's not flat, it's not static, and the players in the 3 & the 2 can change, making it very difficult for opponents to defend against

Look at all of the communication & off-ball movement from Cusco in the buildup of this possession

Particularly the far side here. Players are fluid, dropping into spaces & creating more angles for the player on the ball, and communicating with teammates to keep everyone in check

Bodo/Glimt are a really, really well-coached team. That’s always enough to be respected.

One incident, three different broadcasts, but only one of them was able to tell what was actually going on because the commentator was in-stadium.

It really does make a huge difference.
Among the perks of tuning in to the local #AustinFC radio call:

-Knowing what is happening.

(Apple and FOX announcers were off-site, at the mercy of whatever the director was showing them and the audience.)

No Scandinavian club had reached a European semi-final since Brondby in 1991. Now Bodø/Glimt and Djurgården have done it within minutes of each other. Bodø/Glimt are the story of the season.

It is my biggest pet peeve with broadcasters of NWSL and MLS games.

These are top division leagues. The broadcasts should be treated that way and the annoucers should be in the stadiums, and whoever is in charge of spending the money should spend it.

when you're going through a very long banter era after decades of unparalleled dominance, you at least get a captain attacking midfielder who constantly goes for screamers and hollywood balls but does cool stuff in the process.

Japan has been coming for a few years. Beating the #USWNT convincingly (at home, no less) means they’re here.

Japan's press and counterpress is so good - surgical, almost. Relentlessly punished any hesitation or imprecision in the USWNT, who looked pretty uncomfortable in the half-hour I watched.

There'll be a lot of overheated takes, as there always are after a #USWNT loss, but this is the best performance from one of their opponents in years. Outstanding structure, just a remarkably intelligent performance from every player Nielsen put on the field.
