On our second day of this year summer course we had Victor Moreno-Mayar talking about the #ancient population of #Rapa #Nui. Was the data consistent with the population #collapse proposed so far? The biological data seems to disagree!

Increased proportion of common variants results in twice as many high impact associations in Greenland compared to Europe. Many of these are Arctic-specific. The impact is measured as variance explained; a combination of allele frequency and effect size. 🧵5/6

The variant distribution is different: Overall fewer variants in the Greenlandic population but a larger proportion of common variants. At the same time, the additive genetic burden is comparable between all populations. 🧵4/6

Representation of Greenlandic summary data drastically improves the expected outcome of clinical screenings and the predictive power of polygenic scores. 🧵3/6

We can inform health-care decisions in other Arctic populations, only using data from the Greenlandic population: Our analysis suggests that sucrose-intolerance might be present in the indigenous Alaskan populations. 🧵2/6
