Specifically, I'm pissed that kids in middle school and high school now do not engage with primary texts that would show them what people THEIR age faced in our history. My kids' social studies curriculum deals with those facts as outliers that can't possibly come back. We're about to see.

That scene REALLY rankled me, partly because my brother had just died a couple years before at 13.

I hate that *I* have to be the one to remind my students that MOST of human history (and around the world NOW) involved a LOT more grief MUCH earlier than we pretend it does/did.
