Not to mention that in the Bible, Christ is specifically offered all the power of a king, tempted with all worldly power, and absolutely refuses it.

The only way he gets away with this stuff is because he’s the only director in Hollywood who can and has done their jobs better than them

“Shit, this asshole is smarter than me, and now he’s decompressing after 19 hours in the tank and watching dailies underwater, I hate him”

I got to see it in VistaVision in Cambridge. What a fantastic damn experience.

Man, it’s actually astonishing what a qualified engineer he is. I remember there was a Mars conference in the 90s, and he put together a Mars rover design that apparently floored the JPL people there.

Yeah, that's shockingly close to how MAGA voters think and I don't want any part of that mindset, you know? "I don't care if my house burns down as long as my the homes of my enemies burn down around me"

And made almost $300 million worldwide.

Also, this article rubbed me the wrong way at the start by not only attributing "If you build it, they will come" to Costner, but getting the basic quote wrong too.

Now there's a deep dive I can get behind.

Yup. And Jobs - who, to be clear, was completely capable of being vile in many ways - had a humanist streak, loved art & music, and was as un-materialistic as a billionaire could get. (I remember him talking about holding a family vote abt which washing machine to buy.)

The new crop loves nothing.

You know, Steve Jobs was (at best), a deeply flawed man, but it seems impossible that any of the current narcissistic, dehumanized crop could have written this email, which basically says, “I need to remind myself how unimportant I really am.”

I was about to post something snarky like, “oh yeah, this is going to go over realllll well with End Times Christians real well, the ones warning against microchips and bar codes” and then I realized, oh wait, those are the people who threw their lot in with the actual Antichrist.

oh look it’s a helpful list of all the Nexstar and Sinclair ABC stations that I guess one could call if they wanted to complain about them not airing Jimmy Kimmel tonight

You should! He’s fascinating.

(IIRC, he also had a great story about The Player. When Altman came on, he told Tolkin he was going to have one of his own writers work on it. Instead of getting pissed, Tolkin said, “Fine! Then I’m your producer.” I thought that was incredibly savvy.)

I wish I still had a copy of an interview a CompuServe friend of mine did with Michael Tolkin about The Rapture. Lots of interesting nuggets, including how a version that showed more of the actual rapture would’ve probably looked like an American International picture.

Yeah. Based on what he's saying about no remedy being available, that's why I think we need to jury-rig a state-based response, like here in MA where we're not openly flouting CDC recommendations regarding the COVID vaccine.

It's probably going to lead to a soft secession, but what else can we do?

And you CAN attack them directly and effectively! Targeting NextStar and Sinclair's local advertisers is ground zero in all this. And it's a lot more specific and will have immediate results. Frank's Lawn Service isn't gonna wanna get mucked up with all this.
