I really wish these parents would talk to the elders in their families and understand how much less tragic and more blessed their lives are, because our generation and our kids have access to these vaccines and didn't have to suffer through childhood diseases in the same way. It's very simple.
According to the Houston Chronicle, public health officials in Texas think that there are likely 200-300 people now infected with measles. If confirmed, this outbreak is already out of control. H/t to @mickiemo.bsky.social for the heads up. www.chron.com/news/houston...
Hundreds of people feared infected with measles in Texas
The outbreak of measles in a small West Texas community may be worse than officials originally thought. They are scrambling to promote vaccinations.

Yes, bird flu could become airborne, human-to-human. As my collaborator Seema Lakdawala points out, we're doing the experiment now.

Could the Bird Flu Become Airborne? (Gift Article)

If you have built a #CRBox please response to this post with a photo of it. I'll make up the categories based on entries. It's all for fun and glory!

Follow and listen to @donmilton.bsky.social. He is internationally-recognized for his research on airborne infectious disease transmission .... and also willing to post childhood photos. 👇
Let's not go back to those bad old days. The only real protection against mumps and the bigger threats of measles and rubella is herd immunity. We vaccinated our children and they are vaccinating our grandchildren. Let's keep dispelling the misinformation and keep trying to get everyone vaccinated!

I shared the data below because RFK Jr. thinks that NIH focuses too much on infectious disease and not enough on chronic disease. Depending on how you count, less than 10% of NIH's budget goes to infectious disease, while the lion's share goes toward chronic disease.
How much NIH funding goes toward infectious vs. chronic disease? If I assign NIAID's (Allergy and Infectious Disease) budget as infectious, even though allergies are chronic, then it's 9%. Other institutes are general or mainly chronic.

Ionization can reduce pathogens in small chambers, but does it work in real life? Not according to our latest paper. We looked at airborne culturable bacteria in a lecture hall when an in-duct ionization system was on vs. off and found no differences.

Bipolar Ionization Did Not Reduce Airborne Bacteria in a Lecture Hall
Ionization treatment of indoor air has attracted attention for its potential to inactivate airborne pathogens and reduce disease transmission, yet its real-world effectiveness remains unverified. We e...
