I created PicoGUS, an ISA card that can emulate sound cards like the Gravis Ultrasound, Sound Blaster, and MPU-401: https://picog.us

Why am I taking a selfie in front of a random office building? This is a former Maxtor office and where several versions of the ATA/ATAPI spec were written. While working on #PicoIDE I noticed that the work address of the editor was literally right next door to where I work so I made a pilgrimage!

Are you ready for #PicoIDE? It seems to be telling me it's ready. Coming soon: ATAPI optical disc emulation and IDE hard drive emulation. picoide.com

After seeing this I knew what my next laptop sticker would be

My weekend project was trying out #PicoIDE on my Amiga 1200. It mostly works, just needs a few tweaks. Thanks to the Amiga community who knows this machine way better than I do!

@sharkabytes.bsky.social posted about The Dig's soundtrack earlier today, which made me feel like firing the game up on the PicoIDE (coming soon 😉) - this really takes me back!

Me working on PicoIDE, my IDE emulator, on @davesvinappletech.bsky.social's Sunday livestream while wearing a banana costume, as one does.

Sometimes there's really cool stuff on FB Marketplace. Here's a data terminal used on the Cassini mission in a flight case with exceedingly cool NASA worm logo "CRITICAL SPACE ITEM" stickers.

I’m helping my kid with precalc and decided to do some vintage calculating by getting out the HP 48G I used in high school and college. It calculates pretty slow but the keyboard and RPN are still a dream.

My cool Space Shuttle Enterprise Approach and Landing Test mug that I got at a vintage shop in the Mojave outside Lancaster is starting to fade. I’m torn between “use it so you can enjoy it” and “it must be preserved” here

The Steve Jobs $1 coin is meh but the Cray-1 coin is very very cool www.usmint.gov/news/press-r...

My humble (if cluttered) workbench. This is my cozy place!

Actually spoke too soon, Oceanwide Pro Bold looks like a very close match.

I got my boards around the same time. Seems that par for the course with JLCPCB, they are inconsistent with data entry in their catalog. Some say X-ray is required, some don't, even though they have the exact same footprint. The MSL they have for these parts varies wildly too (datasheet says MSL 3)

Well spotted 😄

I'm making some PCBs with these ESP32 mini modules on them. Because they don't have exposed solder pads, JLCPCB requires X-ray inspection so they sent me the X-rays. Looks cool but not sure what to do with this. I guess they passed?

Ordering PCBs. 50% tariff is totally cool and normal 🙃

It’s good to know that this wasp and hornet killer has a dielectric breakdown voltage of 47,300 volts

There are two versions of the SC1224. Which one do you have? If yours looks like this one I can measure and take pictures of the screws if you'd like.

Last night I pulled off my most delicate micro-bodge yet. I'm powering DVDD on the RP2350 externally and left some VREG pins floating that I shouldn't have. Soldering to the edges of the pads on the 0.4mm QFN wasn't too bad under magnification. The bad part was dealing with the tiny lengths of wire

Yesterday we visited Green Mountain Falls, CO to visit the kinetic sculpture Off the Beaten Path by Patrick Shearn. I wasn’t ready for just how dynamic it was even in the slightest breeze. Reminds me of a murmuration of starlings. Incredible artwork. It’ll only be up through October 19th.

Interesting, as a kid I randomly stumbled on a Wing Commander novel (I think it was Freedom Flight because the cover artwork seems the most familiar to me). I had no idea there was a series of them including novelizations of III and IV!

Here, have a video of it working, as a treat:
